Obafemi Martins is the fifth highest paid player in Major League Soccer for the 2013 season, according to a players’ union release.

He is also the highest ever paid player for Seattle Sounders with an annual basic salary of $1.6million.

Martins beat Freddie Ljungberg record of $1.3million at Seattle Sounders as highest paid player ever in the club history in 2009/2010 season.

According to a statement by MLS players’ union, Martins is on the basic wage of $1.6million per season and earn guaranteed compensation fee of $1.725million.

Robbie Kaene of Los Angeles Galaxy is the highest earner in MLS with $4million salary and $4.333million as his guaranteed compen-sation.

Second on the list is ex-Arsenal star Thierry Henry, who earns $3.75million and a guaranteed compensa-tion for New York Red Bull striker is $4.35million.

Another New York Red Bull star Tim Cahill is next with an annual wage of $3.5million with guaranteed compensa-tion fee of $3.625million.

The fourth on the highest paid players list is Los Angeles Galaxy’s Landon Donovan with an annual wage of $2.5million with a guarantee compensa-tion fee of $2.5million.
