Dutch club VVV Venlo are to off load ex-Nigeria U20 star Uche Nwofor after they were relegated.
After flirting with relegation for several seasons, VVV were finally demoted to the lower league after they finished 17th on the Dutch top flight table.
Life in the lower league means they can no longer cope with the wage bill they shouldered while they were up.
“Nwofor is one of the top stars they will now have to let go after they were relegated,” a top source informed MTNFootball.com
VVV once paraded a huge contingent of Nigeria players, but last season Alex Nkume’s contract was not renewed, Ahmed Musa departed to Russian club CSKA Moscow, while Michael Uchebo moved to Cercle Brugge in Belgium.
Nwofor joined the modest club in 2011 months after he finished top scorer at the African Youth Championship in South Africa, which Nigeria won.
He scored five goals in 27 matches in his debut season and scored eight goals this past season.
He had turned down several bigger profiled clubs including Portuguese giants Benfica to sign for VVV.
