The Concerned Progressive Professionals, CPP, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to urgently wade into and resolve the leadership crises at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra State, by making public, the substantive Chief Medical Director, CMD, of the institution.

The group in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Barr. Bonny Obunadike and the Secretary, Pharm. Francis Acada Okongwu, said the call has become necessary to save the people who relied on the institution for their health needs, from untold hardships.

“We the Concerned Progressive Professionals wish to draw the attention of President Goodluck Jonathan and the general public to the brewing crises in Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, over the appointment of Chief Medical Director for the institution.

“We made a trip to the hospital and were shocked to discover that activities there were at its lowest ebb. Nothing is working well. We believe that President Jonathan will frown at any action or inaction that will tend to frustrate his health agenda. Most importantly, our concern is more on the fact that a tertiary health of that level cannot continue to operate without a substantive CMD for so long”, the statement  noted.

The group expressed worries that disagreement and confusion over who is the authentic/substantive CMD among the interested parties has crippled activities at the health facility, and urged the Federal Government through the Minister of Health, to make public the substantive head of the institution.

The statement maintained that it had in good authority that President Jonathan has since March appointed a CMD for NAUTH and wondered why the Ministry of Health was yet to unveil the new CMD, after all the due process involved in the selection of substantive CMD including screening has successfully been completed.

It stressed that the delay by the Health Ministry to make public the substantive CMD has made some of the contestants to lay claim to the post including the Acting CMD, Dr. Anthony Igwegbe who the group alleged has been parading himself as substantive head of the hospital.

“We therefore, called on the Honourable Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu to gazette and publish or allow the publication of the substantive Chief Medical Director without further delay”, the statement said.
