WORRIED over threats confronting President Jonathan’s perceived re-election bid in the 2015 presidential election and the seeming sharp division among senators on the development, senators of the South South geo-political zone under the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will meet in Asaba, Delta State, tomorrow, to discuss on how to handle the situation.

The meeting, according to Vanguard source, would be held at the instance of the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the South South zone in collaboration with the national headquarters of the party.

The party is said to be concerned about political developments in the House of Representatives where members of the party from the region had openly demonstrated their resolve to support the House Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, to contest against Jonathan in the forth coming presidential election in 2015.

The leadership of the South South PDP Senators Caucus, was said to have been approached by both the leadership of the party in the zone and the national headquarters to arrange a forum where they can all meet to chart a common course, a development that gave rise to the scheduled meeting.

It is being expected that the senators, at the meeting, will discuss the need for continuous unity of lawmakers of the upper legislative chamber from the geo-political zone and the desirability or otherwise of featuring President Goodluck Jonathan, who is from the region, to seek a renewed term of four years in office.

Another item in the agenda of the meeting, according to the source, will be the political feud brewing between Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State and one of their members, Senator Aloysious Etok, over their question to seek Senate seat in the same senatorial district of the state.

But he said it was not only the South South senators that the leadership of the party will meet in its effort at seeing President Jonathan  to regain his position, saying it was merely starting with the South South senators.

Senate Leader and leader of the South South Senators Caucus in the Senate, Victor Ndoma-Egba, confirmed to Vanguard that senators of the South South extraction will meet on Sunday in Asaba, but refused to disclose the agenda just as he said he would not give further comment on the meeting.

Vanguard gathered that the lawmakers are expected to come up with a common position at the end of the meeting.
