NATIONAL Coordinator of Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, Otunba Gani Adams, has described the threat by Movement of for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, to attack mosques, clerics and other Muslims as a call to anarchy.
Otunba Adams, in a statement, condemned the threat by MEND, warning that such statements will no longer be tolerated.
He said: “The recent statement credited to MEND to attack mosques, clerics and other Muslim targets has come to the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, as a big shock.
“The said plan by MEND, coming at a time when our nation is still struggling to put an end to the violence unleashed on some parts of Northern Nigeria by the Boko Haram sect, is a sure call to anarchy.”
“This is surely capable of causing a religious and sectarian crisis of a magnitude that could be worse than the three years civil war.”
He argued that while OPC appreciated MEND’s fundamental right to genuine struggle for self-determination in the Niger Delta, “we, however, disagree in totality with its latest threat to attacks mosques and other Muslims targets.”
