In furtherance of her Going Green advocacy aimed at improving the environment, wife of Governor Ibikunle Amosu of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, has called for huge awareness and enlightenment campaign, beginning from the grassroots, to achieve sustainable development and reverse the current adverse effects of climate change.
Mrs. Amosun spoke while addressing participants at the Uplifting the Environment— Ogun Goes Green International Conference & Workshop held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta.
She noted that lack of knowledge and understanding of environmental issues was a major challenge and setback to nation-building.
She said: “Going Green means adopting basic principles like reducing pollution, converse resources, reduce waste energy, protect the earth’s ecological balance and recycling products to protect the environment from harm, as well as ensuring living on earth is sustainable for human and other creatures.”
She said Africa had become the focus of global deliberation and discussions on the international scene, mainly because of its vast resources and its huge potential for degradation if not managed.
She added that the conference would, among other things, highlight ways of reducing adverse environmental impart, save money, and live a healthier life.
