AWKA — CHAIRMAN, Senate Committee  on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Senator Andy Ubah, has described his short stay in office as governor of Anambra State in 2007 as ‘’divine.’

He said having spent only 17 days in office before being removed by the court, “God used the removal to teach me some lessons which had been beneficial to me.’’

Speaking during an interactive session with members of Enugu Sports Club as well as students from tertiary institutions from across Enugu State in Enugu, weekend, Uba, representing Anambra South Senatorial district, gave a run-down of how he started his life, noting that hard work always paid.

On the position of Igbo in national politics, he called on Ndigbo to re-discover the enterprising and hard working spirit bequeathed to them by their progenitors by making use of such to advance their political interests in the country.

Ubah regretted that the pioneering roles played by Ndigbo as a tribe, both in pre-independent and post-independent history of Nigeria, appeared not to have been followed up by the present crop of politicians, blaming it on lack of unity and the inability of their leaders to speak with one voice.

He said his plans at the time he became the governor of Anambra State was to make it a model and reposition it like other developed states across Nigeria.

He added, however, that he was still serving the state and his constituency in particular, as a lawmaker to the best of his ability.

Earlier, Chairman of Enugu Sports Club, Mr Ricky Agu, had in his welcome speech, described the visit of Senator Andy Uba to the club as a homecoming.
