Winners have emerged at the 2013 Daniel Ogechi Akujobi Memorial Foundation (DOAMF) Annual Charity Golf Tournament held at the Ikoyi Club 1938, with Jung G.S, taking home the grand prize of the Oba & Queen of Benin plaque, a 32 inch Samsung Television and a trophy with a total of 70 Net, and Marinho Nike emerging as the overall winner of the ladies category with 72 Net.
The tourney, which held at the Golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos at the behest of DOAMF, was in remembrance of Master Daniel Ogechi Akujobi, who lost his life in a ghastly motor accident along Mowe in OgunState while on his way back to school. The event featured over 150 Golfers, including Company Executives, who strove to outdo one another in order to finish tops.
Speaking at the cocktail held at the end of the tourney, the Chairman, DOAM Foundation, Mr. Sam Ayininuola represented by Prof Obinnaya L. Chukwu thanked the guests for attending the event despite their tight schedules.
He stated that the Foundation is a platform to assist trauma victims and avert a good number of deaths on Nigerian roads. He also called for support from the public to ensure that the Foundation’s health and educational projects are sustained.
Funds raised from the event would be channeled to the Foundation’s Accident and Emergency (A&E) Centre located close to the accident site in Mowe, among several other health and educational projects.
Speaking on the event, the DOAMF Program Officer, Sorochi Ugorji, said the choice of Golf was because of its capacity to allow over a 100 players of various ages and social class, among other things, to actively compete, adding that it has the ability to improve the health condition of the players.
