Super Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi has explained why only Sunshine Stars of Akure defender Godfery Oboabona out of the six Nigeria Premier League stars in South Africa has enjoyed playing time at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

According to Keshi the home based stars who were pivotal in securing qualification for Nigeria to the ongoing Afcon tournament   have the quality to play against Africa’s best but are currently undone by fitness issues.

“Of course, I still have trust in my home boys, it’s not that they are not good enough but they have been having fitness problems. It was because the Nigerian League was not on at the time camping started.

“The likes of Reuben Gabriel, Ejike Uzoenyi have been down with one illness or the other but thank God they are fine now so you would get to see them play for Nigeria soon, if not here in the near future,” Keshi told reporters at a press conference in Rustenburg.

The Eagles gaffer since assuming his position has been well commended in different quarters for giving the home lads the opportunity to showcase their talents at the national team level.
