Ogun communities raise alarm over alleged invasion

By DAUD OLATUNJI

ABEOKUTA – Palpable tension has enveloped residents of  30 communities in  Ketu-land in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State over the alleged invasion of their farmlands by armed Fulani herdsmen.

The residents, who were predominantly farmers claimed  that no fewer than 21 people have been killed since 2000  whenever the Fulani herdsmen invaded their farmlands.

They raised  the alarm that the marauding armed  Fulani herdsmen  had been allegedly lurking  at the borders between Nigeria and Benin Republic and might in a matter of days invade their communities   and destroy their farmlands with their indiscriminate grazing of their cattle.

A coalition of socio-cultural groups from the area appealed to the government to intervene and save lives.
