FG to focus more on developmental projects

By MIKE EFFIONG

The federal government is to focus more on developmental projects in Lagos and across the country which will include bridges and roads.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Works, Mr.Mike Onolemene, during a visit to Lagos State last week to officially bring to an end the rehabilitation works carried out on the third mainland bridge.

He stated that many other bridges across the country are calling for government’s attention, adding that government has already put mechanism in place to ensure that they are all rehabilitated. “Now that we are through with the Third Mainland Bridge rehabilitation project, we simply move to other things. There are quite a number of other bridges and roads calling for attention not only in Lagos but all over the country. I want to say that the comprehensive repair of bridges did not start with the Third Mainland Bridge.

According to him, he said that major rehabilitation of the Jebba Bridge was awarded to Messer Borini Construction Company before coming to Third Mainland Bridge.

“Therefore we are going to focus on other bridges calling for our attention. Even here in Lagos, there are other bridges and roads that we going to fix so as to ensure that they all become better. He re-emphasised what he had on previous occasions said that the structural integrity of the bridge was intact; noting that more routine maintenance of the bridge would be carried out from time to time.
