ABAKALIKI – EBONYI state House of Assembly Wednesday recalled its former speaker and member representing Ebonyi North west state constituency, kechukwu Nwankwo, who was impeached and suspended from the House on December 21, 2011.

It should be recalled that the member received the sledge hammer of the House over alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office as Speaker of the state House of Assembly.

In a motion, the member representing Afikpo South West constituency, Eni Uduma Chima called on the House to recall Hon. Nwankwo, who according to him had shown remorse for his misdeeds having wrote a letter of apology to the House.

Seconding the motion, the member representing Ishielu South constituency, Julius Nwokpor, stressed that the 10-month old suspension be lifted since Nwankwo had agreed to refund the funds he allegedly misappropriated during his administration.

However, before the final vote for his recall was made, the former speaker was invited into the chambers of the House to affirm whether he was the person that wrote the letter of apology and also for him to state his stand on the matter.

The speaker, Chukwuma Nwanzunku, thereafter put the motion to vote as it was unanimously adopted by the members that Hon. Nwankwo’s suspension be lifted without delay.
