For me, I think the government should be looking at policies that will stabilize the economy  rather than causing additional controversy.

This seems to counter the cashless policy earlier introduced by the same CBN Governor that is still in the pilot stage.

The N40b meant for the coining and the printing of the new note can be used for investment that will stabilize the economy. That was the point I was making earlier that they should make policies that will stabilize the economy rather than using the money to print new currencies.

I am not saying that printing a N5,000 note is completely useless, what I am saying is that the idea is not critical at this point where there are several things not yet put in place.What the introduction does is that it reduces what amount of cash that somebody can carry at a particular point in time.

There are more pressing issues the country is battling with now. There is this saying that when a patient is in trauma, you will first of all put things that will resuscitate the person before admitting drugs on the person.

Using our economy as an example, you will find out that our economy is in a very big trauma so what we need now is a policy that will stabilize the economy before adding another burden to it. There are so many reforms in the economy.

It will be very difficult when those reforms start countering one another. I will simply advise the government to find a good policy for the good of the economy.

Yes, introducing N5,000 currency is a nice idea. At least, it will be very convenient to carry the money. This is not the time you will have to carry large number of currencies. With the new note, you can go with a large amount of money with lesser stress.

It is even safer. Because, going with large number of currencies most times, attracts armed robbers. When you are going with large currencies, it will be obvious that you are with something. I think what the CBN has introduced is a nice and wonderful idea. I applaud them for that.
