2 security guards, 3 others convicted for theft

Two security guards, Bitrus Jamlak and James Langtin, along with three other men, were on Friday convicted by a Kubwa Upper Area Court for theft.

The guards and the three – Sarki Bashir, Abba Haruna and Mustapha Tsalah – were convicted for joint act, theft and receipt of stolen property.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Kelechi Echendu, told the court that the complainant reported the case at Kubwa police station on Sept. 11.

He said that the first and second convicts were security guards at the complainant’s hotel that is under construction.

Echendu said that they went to the hotel premises at Kubwa extension three on Sept. 11 and stole building materials valued at more than N 2 million.

The prosecutor said they sold the stolen the materials to the third, fourth and fifth convicts at Dutse market.

He said that the materials, which include roofing sheets, iron rods and plumbing materials, were recovered from the buyers.

The five convicts pleaded guilty to all the charges.

The presiding judge, Alhaji Mohammed Lawal, sentenced them to 18 months imprisonment each with an option of N 15, 000 fine each. (NAN)
