Shell commends SoDA for injury free operation

The Country Chair, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), Mr. Mutiu Sunmonu has expressed deep satisfaction over five million injury free operations achieved by SoDA.

SoDA is an acronym for a portfolio of SPDC Project covering the Southern Swamp Associated Gas Solution (AGS) Projects, Domestic Gas Supply and AG Solution Projects targeted at domestic gas supply and implementing flares-down solutions on some existing facilities where associated gas being flared.

In his congratulatory message, Sunmonu said, “this is an excellent achievement that we should be proud of.

“A big thank you to everybody, let’s be happy and celebrate this achievement, let it be a motivation for continued Goal-Zero attainment in the SoDA Projects.”

SoDA has worked since October 2006 without losing time to injury or fatalities. The team has been working on Associated Gas Solution Project and pipelines extending over challenging terrains of the Niger Delta in both brown and green fields. It has achieved over five million man-hours lost time injury-LTI/ fatality free as of February 2012.

However, Project Manager, SoDA and Domestic gas, Wolter Wienlenga added that, ”This is a noteworthy achievement when you consider that the team is made up of over 400 regular and contractor staff, as well as community semi-skilled labourers has worked from October 2006.”

But he also cautioned all the staff to focus on improvements through strict Health Safety Security and Environment (HSSE).

Wienlenga attributed the team’s achievement to site behavioural safety programmes such as Injury free club, proactive safety campaigns and improved frontline supervision. He also added that consistent visible HSSE leadership played a big role in motivating the staff to doing the right thing.
