Hip hop veteran and seven time winner of the Lyricist On The Roll category at the Headies, Mode 9, recently poured out his heart on rap music in Nigeria. Mode 9 was caught on camera advising a young rap artiste.

“A lot of people are rapping but people are not hip hop. It’s true. Some times I go to hip hop events and I just laugh. They are almost trying to, but not.

Those who really understand hip hop will understand what I’m saying. But if you are just on the surface, you’d say; Mode9 is not making sense.

It’s the truth. It’s what we know. I’ve invested a lot of time into this and I definitely know what I’m talking. Most Nigerians do not like rap.”
