Work for victory, Jonathan tells Edo PDP chieftains

ABUJA—AHEAD of July 14 gubernatorial election in Edo State, President Goodluck Jonathan has urged the state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to work hard for victory and ensure that the state became a case study for one man, one vote.

President Jonathan, who spoke at a meeting with leaders and chieftains of the party from Edo State at the Presidential Villa, Sunday night, also advised them to play politics according to the rules.

Though the meeting was held behind closed doors, Vanguard gathered that the meeting was to intimate the President on the preparedness of the party ahead of the governorship polls.According to a source, former Chairman, Board of Trustees, BoT of the party, Chief Tony Anenih, led the party chieftains to the meeting.

Also present at the meeting, which had in attendance, Vice President Namadi Sambo, were PDP National Chairman, Deputy National Chairman, Sam Sam Jaja, other members of the National Working Committee, NWC, former governor of the defunct Bendel State, Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia; Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor; Edo PDP Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih.

Others are; PDP governorship candidate, Charles Arhiavbere; his deputy, Johnson Abulagba; Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolenmenmen; Chief Gabriel Igbinedion; Senator Odion Ugbesia; Senator Yisa Braimoh; Pascal Ugbome; former Minister of Defence, General Godwin Abbe; Mathew Iduoriyekenwen, among others.

Vanguard also gathered that the meeting, which came two days after the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, held a meeting with stakeholders of political parties in Edo State, was designed to let the President know that the PDP in Edo state was now united than ever before.

The source said: “The meeting was held to let President Goodluck Jonathan know the level of preparedness for the July 14 election and to tell him that we are ready for the election.

“The President told us that there must be one man, one vote and that PDP believes in one man, one vote. He said Edo State governorship election must be a case study.”
