By DAUD OLATUNJI
ABEOKUTA—Out-going Vice- Chancellor  of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNNAB, Professor Olaiya Balogun, yesterday, said he received  no fewer than 200 death threats prior to the selection of his successor two months ago.

Olaiya,  who was with the Vice-Chancellor-designate, Prof. Olusola Oyewole,  at the university’s permanent site, Alabata, Abeokuta,  at the commencement of its 20th convocation  which ends tomorrow.

He  described  the messages as very scary, adding that, he could not  disclose their contents to his wife  and children.

He, however, said he has forwarded the messages to the security agencies for appropriate  action, adding that the gesture might be as a result of his policies and actions against those who according to him flouted the institution’s policies and were subsequently sent out.

He recalled that he stepped on many toes  in the cause of arriving at a number  of critical decisions to move the institution forward, boasting that, he was not perturbed  and that he would  repeat such  decisions if he finds himself in the position  to do so.

He said: “ I am  under very terrible  life threats. I have in recent times received about 200 death threat   messages.  But, I believe that, the people behind this would soon be nabbed. This is what will give me the greatest joy”.
