ABEOKUTA—Out-going Vice- Chancellor of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNNAB, Professor Olaiya Balogun, yesterday, said he received no fewer than 200 death threats prior to the selection of his successor two months ago.
Olaiya, who was with the Vice-Chancellor-designate, Prof. Olusola Oyewole, at the university’s permanent site, Alabata, Abeokuta, at the commencement of its 20th convocation which ends tomorrow.
He described the messages as very scary, adding that, he could not disclose their contents to his wife and children.
He, however, said he has forwarded the messages to the security agencies for appropriate action, adding that the gesture might be as a result of his policies and actions against those who according to him flouted the institution’s policies and were subsequently sent out.
He recalled that he stepped on many toes in the cause of arriving at a number of critical decisions to move the institution forward, boasting that, he was not perturbed and that he would repeat such decisions if he finds himself in the position to do so.
He said: “ I am under very terrible life threats. I have in recent times received about 200 death threat messages. But, I believe that, the people behind this would soon be nabbed. This is what will give me the greatest joy”.
