DELTA State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has contacted Itsekiri/Ijaw monarchs and leaders to prevail on their kinsmen not to do anything that will result to another round of ethnic crisis between the two ethnic groups as well as endanger the peace and security agenda of the state government.

A security source told Saturday Vanguard, last night, that following the warning by the Ogbe Ijoh kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of the state that the people would not allow the Itsekiri ethnic group to carry out a boat regatta today (Saturday) on waterways, belonging to gbe-Ijoh. The governor has been reaching out on phone to the leaders.

“It will be a disaster if the Ijaw and Itsekiri resume a fresh ethnic war under the administration of Governor Uduaghan, despite his claim that that he played a major role in restoring peace between both groups, so, the governor, in spite of the fact that he is an Itsekiri,  knows that the reputation of his government is at stake and is doing everything to ensure that the two ethnic groups live in peace”.

“It is not necessary to begin to recount to you those the governor has spoken to on phone or reached personally.

But what I can tell you is that he has spoken to royal fathers and leaders from both divides, as well as youth leaders and he has a firm assurance that there is not going to be war”, he added.

Efforts by Saturday Vanguard, yesterday, to get comments from the governor was unsuccessful as he neither replied to the text message sent to his GSM phone nor picked our call.
