T-R-A-G-E-D-Y: UNN undergraduate hangs self

Nsukka: Barely two weeks after A 400 level Medical Laboratory student of Ebonyi State University, EBSU, Mr Michael Onwe, was discovered hanging dead in his room in Abakaliki, tragedy has struck again, this time, at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka main campus, Enugu State as a 300 level Physic/Astronomy student was found hanging dead in an open stadium of the university.

The undergraduate simply identified as Onyebuchi Okonkwo and hailed from Nkpor, Anambra state was seen hanging dead at the hockey pitch stadium pavilion with an electric cable tied to his neck, while his tongue projected.

Vanguard correspondent who visited the scene of the tragedy gathered that the deceased was the course representative of his department and on MTN scholarship for his studies till graduation.

Reports showed that there was a knife besides the remains of Okonkwo while hanging. He was dressed in a short boxers and black T-shirt while his trousers pulled from his waist to the foot.

A source who claimed to be close friends of the late student who pleaded anonymity told Vanguard that both of them studied together the previous night at the Centre for Entrepreneurship, Development and Research (CEDR) of the university before his death. According schooled with late Okonkwo at St. Charles secondary school, Onitsha, explaining that two of them were long time friends from secondary school to the university.

Our reliable source disclosed that a suicide text message was scrolled out from his mobile phone, allegedly meant for his mother. The suicide message is yet to be downloaded as the phone is with the security department of the institution.

As at the time of filling this report, both the security officers of the University and policemen were making frantic efforts to release Onyebuchi from the point of suicide.
