Senator Annie Okonkwo has charged governors of the South East to initiate a regional developmental agenda that will make the zone envy of Nigerians.
Okonkwo, in a statement by his Media Adviser, and Coordinator, Congress for Igbo Renaissance, Mr. Collins Ugwu, bemoaned unequal number of states in the regions, a situation he believe had left an irreparable economic and political trauma in the South East geopolitical zone.
“Now, our governors should rise to the occasion with one accord and give us a deliverable idea-packed regional blueprint, that will command acceptance and guarantee rapid transformation of our landscape for good,” said Senator Okonkwo, who represented Anambra State in the sixth Senate.
On why a South East blueprint should be the best, he noted that “our renowned experts in all fields of endeavour and industry are the consultants others pursue to hire locally and internationally.
“The political will to harness their global talents for a transformative turn around is the major key, not the costs,” he said.
Emphasizing the need for urgency, the Senator cautioned that “as our people once again return home in droves from unjust displacements in their places of abode and trade, especially from the north, our balm of hope for them must be visible in action, since rehearsed lyrics of apologies will certainly not be music to their ears. So the time for action is today and now, because tomorrow may not have us as beneficiaries.”
