Peru Vs Nigeria: Keshi wary of altitude

By John Egbokhan
Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi has said that his team were going to  face a very tough Peruvian side in tomorrow’s international friendly at the Lima National Stadium.

Keshi, who led his team out of Nigeria weekend for the trip to the South American country, said the weather in Lima coupled with the passion of the Peruvians were enough to make the game a very tricky and complex encounter.

While ruing the absence of captain, Joseph Yobo, who is out of the game because of injury, Keshi said that he was confident that his players can cope with the pressure that comes with playing away from home.

“We are going to face a very tough opposition. It is not easy when you play against teams from south America. Peru are a good team with talented players and I expect a very difficult match. The aim is to play well and get in the best shape for the matches coming up in June.

“I feel sad that my captain (Yobo) is injured. It pains me so much but what can I do but to make use of the ones which we have. Nigeria is supposed to have at least four players who can fill a particular position in the national team at any given time but we are not yet there. We would try to make use of the ones available”, added Keshi.

Tomorrow’s match is part of the country’s preparations  for next month’s 2014 World Cup and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Super Eagles host Namibia in a World Cup qualifier on June 3 in the southern coastal city of Calabar, before they travel to Malawi the following week.

They will also welcome Rwanda to a second leg qualifier for the 2013 Nations Cup on June 17.
