Director of Media and Publicity of the Oshiomhole Campaign Organisation Prince Kassim Afegbua has declared that he had no regret coming back to campaign for the re-election of the Edo State Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole despite his earlier stance against the Governor.
Prince Afegbua who stated this in an exclusive telephone interview with Saturday Vanguard said those who are using his earlier comments as paid advertorial should better save their monies and focus on the elections of July 14, as according to him, “it will not change anything”.
According to Prince Afegbua, “I have no regret over my earlier comments. The fact that the Comrade Governor is still able to cultivate my patronage and support by recruiting me to be part of his campaign knowing full well that I am not sycophantic about issues, makes him magnanimously different from the opposition PDP candidate who cannot tolerate voice of dissent.
The fact that the Comrade Governor can tolerate criticism from those of us who are supposed to be close to him, makes him a man and a leader of my heart, and not those who will fire anyone who disagrees with them. Internal criticism and constructive dialogue are some of the inherent characteristics that make me to appreciate the Governor. I am neither a contractor nor business buccaneer, I am simply a professional who has a mind of his own. I have had cause to disagree with the Comrade Governor both in private and in public, and it has not in any way affected our relationship”, Afegbua explained.
Speaking further on why he has chosen to pitch his tent for Comrade Oshiomhole, Afegbua stated that on “account of his performance, the Comrade Governor needs the support of each and everyone of us to succeed so that the State will not fall into the hands of marauding politicians of the PDP ilk, who are desperately in need of public till to oil their greed”.
You need to commend the magnanimity and profundity of a Comrade Governor who though knows my temperament and critical position, still decided to engage my services.
I remember he once told me that public office is not about self and that people are bound to disagree with him. He cherishes such people more than those who say all is well when all is actually not well. That is why he has been able to unleash this kind of serious developmental initiative in the State.
He is not given to half measure. I may have been unfair in some of my positions based on my limited knowledge of who he is, but that does not remove anything from the man,s achievements in office.
Even when I criticized his stand on the subsidy debate which the PDP wanted to use to rubbish him, he understood the perspective upon which I made my submission. I still conceded that to him, that the man has worked and excellently deserves a second term of office”.
When reminded that there have been series of accusations and counter-accusations in the State between the PDP and ACN, Afegbua declared that all that is at the realm of lack of issues to debate by the PDP.
Hear him; “the PDP is essentially a beleaguered specie in the State coming from a disadvantaged position because there is nothing to show for it’s presence in the State. We are in the State to rescue it from political buccaneers who are too desperate to harvest where they did not sow.
As a stakeholder in the collective patrimony of the State, I hold my own opinion about who to support and my support for Oshiomhole is based on verifiable record of performance in office. Whatever other position I hold is secondary.
What is essential is the fact that the man has worked and worked well. He deserves second term, no more, no less. And surely he will get it. So please tell them to stop carrying propaganda about with respect to my disagreement with him.
That is the beauty of a listening Leader and not one who will attempt to kill you because you simply do not agree with his brand of politics.” he concluded.
