NDPHCN to sanction erring contractors

By KUNLE KALEJAYE
The managements of Niger Delta Power Holding Company of Nigeria, NDPHCN, has warned that erring contractors currently executing the National Integrated Power Projects, NIPP, across the country risk possible sanctions.

The Managing Director of the NDPHCN, Mr. James Olotu, said that such contractors could have their contracts terminated if they failed to execute their project within the allotted time given to them.

According to him, “We have the backing of the entire Senate and the National Assembly to sanction and fine erring contractors who fail to deliver their project within the time frame given to them, and any contractor found wanting in executing low quality projects will suffer the consequences.

“Their projects will be terminated and re-assign to another contractor. We want to use this medium to appeal to them to ensure that they speedily execute their projects across the country, and no contractor will mess us up from not achieving the mandate of the President.”

He made this known at the commissioning of three out of 34 NIPP projects within the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company in Lagos last week.

The three projects that were commissioned included 1×15 MVA 33/11kv injection substation located at Agbowa, Ijede and Ipakodo in Ikorodo.

Olotu commended the efforts of the contractor, Skipper GTA Engineering (Nigeria) Limited, saying, “GTA Engineering has done a beautiful job here that is why we are all here to commission these projects. What they have done should serve as a model for other contractors to follow so that we can guarantee at least additional 1000MW into the national grid at the end of the year.”

Commenting on the success of the three injection substation, the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Ikeja Distribution Company, Mr. Chris Akamnonu, said, “Out of the 34 projects under Ikeja DISCO, three have been commissioned today, between now and August, additional 12 will be commissioned while 19 more will be added between September and December.”
