Insecurity: Imo people express concern

By CHIDI NKWOPARA
OWERRI—Angry reactions have continued to trail spate of insecurity in Imo State, especially from among the elite and business communities.

Respondents, who spoke to Vanguard yesterday, affirmed that insecurity in the land was on the high side.

While a plumbing materials merchant, Mazi Damian Nze, expressed shock at the way armed robbery and kidnapping take place with ease in the state, an industrialist, Dr. Frank Jacobs, lamented that everywhere was unsafe.

His words: “Everywhere is unsafe in the state. Kidnapping and armed robbery remains top on the criminal chart. Honestly, security is seriously in bad shape.”

Noting that armed robbery and kidnapping were disincentives to industry, Jacobs also reasoned that security had compounded the unfriendly business climate in the state.

In his own contribution, Mazi Nze was not happy that people don’t volunteer information to  security agencies, stressing  this was not helpful in fighting crime and criminals in the state.
