Mr Mohammed Abubakar, the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IG), has directed state Police Commissioners to provide security for media houses across the country.
Abubakar, who disclosed this on Tuesday during his maiden interaction with crime correspondents, said the directive followed the threat by the Boko Haram sect to attack the media.
The IG described journalists as partners in the fight against crime who should be protected against attacks.
It will be recalled that the office of ThisDay in Abuja was bombed on April 26 leading to the death of the suspected suicide bomber and two staff of the company.
Also, on the same date, a plaza in Kaduna, housing ThisDay, Leadership and Moment newspapers was attacked by suspected suicide bombers.
The Boko Haram sect that claimed responsibility for the attacks had also threatened to attack more media offices. (NAN)
