ABUJA—As part of efforts to restore the country’s industrial sector to its glorious days, the Federal Government has concluded plans to train one million youths through the National Industrial Revolution Plan, NIRP, to create employment, wealth and reduce poverty.

Disclosing this, yesterday, at the National Industrial Skills Development, NISD, Forum organised by the Industrial Training Fund, ITF, and the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises Development Agency, SMEDAN, in Abuja, the Minister of Trade and Invest-ment, Olusegun Aganga, said the NIRP and NISD projects were part of his ministry’s plans to carry out a complete turnaround of the country’s industrial fortunes.

According to him, no nation can truly be industrialised without adequate skilled manpower. He said the action plan would ensure that one million Nigerian youths were trained every year in different areas of skills acquisition.

Aganga said: “I am not blaming anybody but the available indices and what other countries like Brazil, South Africa and the Asian Tigers have done with less potentials show that a lot of things had been wrong with our approach and policies in the past.”
