FG reviews projects, consultancy remunerations

By Favour Nnabugwu
ABUJA—Federal Government has reviewed road projects and remunerations paid road consultants in the country, with a view to prioritising projects and saving money.

Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, disclosed this yesterday in Abuja when he received in his office the executive management of Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, led by its President, Engr. Mustapha Shehu.

Onolememen told the engineers that the decision to prioritise and review consultants’ remuneration was reached at the Federal Executive Council meeting.

He said: “The matter was discussed by the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting where we took the decision. It is not just about paying engineers for idle time. We are even saying that we do not want to crea-te that kind of down time in our projects any more

”There are certain criteria that will henceforth drive our projects and topmost on the criteria is the prioritisation of projects based on availability of funds. We will nolonger spread the little funds on many projects that may not be active for more than two months and then have 10 months of down time.”
