Bomb blast kills 4 in flashpoint Maiduguri

MAIDUGUR I – AN Improvised Explosive Device (IED’s),  planted by suspected terrorists along Lawan Bukar Street of Mafoni ward in Maiduguri metropolis exploded, leaving four people dead while several others sustained injuries.

The incident occurred, Tuesday afternoon, at about 1pm as many residents scampered to safety.

Vanguard gathered that  immediately after the blast, men of the Joint Task Force (JTF), cordoned off the area,  and engaged the terrorists  in a shoot out, as some houses were burnt in the area.

Confirming the incident to newsmen in Maiduguri, a member of the “Red Cross” who visited the scene said, four people died in the blast and their remains were taken to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Mortuary.

In a telephone interview with newsmen on the incident, the JTF Spokesman, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa said, he was aware that a bomb blast occurred in Lawan Bukar/Mafoni ward of the metropolis, but did not give further details on the number of casualties.

“Yes there was an explosion in Maiduguri suspected to have been masterminded by some terrorists, already our men have cordoned off the whole area, but information is still sketchy, if I get the details I will furnish you appropriately”. Sagir said.
