Man, 35, arraigned for reckless driving

Abuja – A 35-year-old man, Alphonsus Uche was arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court, Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, for reckless driving.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Philip Akogu, told the court that one Dr Chukwuemeka Ikeorha of Asokoro, Abuja, reported to Asokoro Police Station on March 28 that the accused had damaged his car.

Akogu said that the complainant was given a right of way to ECOWAS Secretariat with his Toyota Corolla, registration number BK 893 GWA at Power House Junction by the traffic warden only for the accused to drive in a dangerous manner and hit his car.

The prosecutor added that the accused, who was driving a bus with registration number XA 415 LMU, drove recklessly while approaching the junction.

He noted that the accused refused to stop when ordered to and as a result, hit and damaged the said Toyota car, adding that it cost N450,000 to repair the car.

Akogu said the accused committed traffic offences contrary to sections 28 and 29 of the Road Traffic Authority (RTA).

The accused pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Tomtukura Vera granted the accused bail and adjourned the case till May 14. (NAN)
