SOMES visits Innoson car plant

About 72 students of the Society of Mechanical Engineering Students (SOMES), Federal University of Technology Owerri chapter, recently went on a field trip to Innoson Manufacturing Company, Nnewi, Anambra State, as part of the union’s efforts to expose its students to practical work relevant to their field of study.

Innoson Manufacturing Company welcomed the students, while its supervisor showed the students around the workshop to identify various car components and their major functions.

Among other units, the students visited the Quality Control Unit (QCU), which the supervisor explained was a unit concerned with inspecting buses thoroughly, so as to avoid breakdown or complaints from wholesalers.

Commenting on the success of the field trip, Engr. A. Okoronkwo, Staff Adviser, SOMES FUTO,  thanked the Innoson supervisor for taking time from his busy schedule to educate the students on automobile assembly and manufacture.

In the same vein, some of the students who spoke to QUADLIFE also expressed joy and satisfaction, for according to them, the field trip has helped increase their horizon of knowledge.

For Juliet Ezengwa, the trip was an eventful one. “I am glad to have come for the excursion. At least now, I can boldly identify the various components in an automobile engine and their functions.

On their part, Comrade Ekechi Ogwo, Director of Research, SOMES, FUTO chapter and the President, Comrade Uchenna Amos expressed joy over the field trip. Both men agreed that it was the first time in the past five years that the society has embarked on an excursion.
