ASABA—NATIONAL Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, NUTGTWN, has called on the Delta State Government to revive Asaba Textile Mill, lamenting that the mill used to be the third largest textile producer in Nigeria with over 5,000 employees.
At its 10th National Delegates Conference, NDC, in Asaba, Delta State, General Secretary of NUTGTWN, Mr. Issa Aremu, said the current investment in power by the state government should be able to resuscitate Asaba Textile Mill to absorb many of the unemployed youths and reduce the number of those joining the group of commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders).
Aremu commended the Federal Government for the loan that led to the revival of United Nigeria Textile Plc, Kaduna State, and others, noting that “Suntex is trying to come back.”
Responding, Delta State Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Otuama, said Asaba Textile Mill was receiving the attention of the state government, lamenting that part of the stumbling blocks were legal and economic.
