Following the release, last week, of the time table for the 2012 election to the Ondo State Alagbaka seat of power, the state’s ruling Labour Party is recording an upsurge in the number of decampees from opposition parties with over 2,000 joining it, weekend, from the Ondo East Local Government Area of the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had announced October 20 as the date for the gubernatorial election in Ondo State. The announcement   has increased the tempo of political activities in the state with the Labour party in Ondo East receiving over 2,000 defectors from the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

A former PDP Chairman in the area, Mr Rafiu Olatoye and the Secretary of the party, Tekunle Ward 10, Mr. Julius Adetimehin, led the defecting members of the party into the Labour Party at a colourful ceremony held at the community hall in the area. Olatoye said they were impressed by what he described as the credible performance and achievements of the governor of the state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.

The former PDP chieftain disclosed that he mobilised some other party members to the ruling LP in order to be part of the history of the current transformation going on in Ondo state. Olatoye expressed his happiness for returning to the LP, while describing the leadership of the party as progressive politicians destined to lead the state to the promised land.
