Officers at the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps Centre Jaji, Kaduna State, have been encouraged to take advantage of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Welfare Scheme being administered by underwriting firm, Leadway Assurance Company Limited. The purpose of the Group Life (with savings) Scheme is to cater for the welfare of retired officers as well as the families of deceased officers.

Speaking during the presentation of benefits’ cheques to the next-of-kin of four fallen officers who died last year, Commander, Infantry Corps, Major General Mohammed Isah, said that the Corps took up the Welfare Scheme out of sincere concern and passion for the welfare of infantry officers and their families.

He stated further that out of 11 deaths recorded in 2011, the four officers were the only ones who were active participants in the scheme adding that out of 1,328 officers of the Infantry Corps only 620 have shown interest in the scheme.

Cheques in the combined total of N 2, 303, 154.17 (two million, three hundred and three thousand, one hundred and fifty-four naira, seventeen kobo) were presented to the next-of-kin of the deceased officers who expressed gratitude to the Infantry Corps and Leadway Assurance for bringing succor to their families at this time.

Assistant Chief of Staff, G1 HQ ICC, Col. Femi Akinjobi, also thanked Leadway Assurance for the prompt settlement and congratulated the Infantry Corps on their foresight in implementing the scheme. He enjoined Infantry Corp members to participate in the Scheme and used the forum to further articulate its benefits.
