Lagos Assembly threatens LG chiefs

By OLASUNKANMI AKONI
IKEJA—Following the failure of some invited local government chairmen to appear before the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts (Local) on the report of the Auditor-General of the state, the state lawmakers have threatened to sanction the council bosses.

The warning came when only three out of the six council chairmen invited by the committee, which is on inspection of councils on capital projects failed to appear before it, without reason on scheduled date.

The affected councils are Agege, Bariga, and Apapa local governments.

Chairman of the committee, Mr. Dayo Fafunmi, said the refusal of the councils to appear before the committee will not be tolerated, warning that the committee will sanction councils that refused to appear before it.

He said that the exercise was to consider the report of the Auditor-General for Local Governments on the Capital Projects Inspection of Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in the state.

Fafunmi, noted that out of the six councils invited, only Amuwo–Odofin and Apapa- Igunmu councils took permission not to appear while other refused the committee’s invitation without any regard.
