ABUJA- THE 36 state governors under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, will today meet in Abuja to deliberate on the lingering problem of heavy deductions by the Federal Government from the Federation Account in the name of fuel subsidy.

Director-General of Forum, Asishana Okauru, told Vanguard, yesterday, that issues for the meeting will centre around the deductions, polio and other issues that affect the states.

The meeting, which will hold at Rivers State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, is expected to be chaired by Chairman of the Forum and governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.

At today’s meeting, the governors will discuss why the Federal Government deducted from their allocations N304 billion from the federally-collected revenue between January and February this year, instead of a budgeted N148 billion for the two months which represents N74 billion monthly.

The governors, it will be recalled, could not brainstorm exhaustively on this matter at the last meeting because they had to rush for the National Economic Council, NEC Meeting.

It will also be recalled that the arbitrary deductions from the Federation Account from the oil revenue has been a serious concern to the state governors and it has since been generating tension among the two tiers of government.
At the end of today’s meeting, the governors are expected to present their position to President Goodluck Jonathan later in the day.
