OWERRI—The indefinite industrial action embarked upon by doctors engaged by management of the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, FMCO, has been partially suspended.
Confirming this development to newsmen, the Chairman of FMCO doctors, Dr. Chidi Obiesie, said the striking doctors decided to suspend the strike after having a meeting with the hospital management.
“We had a meeting with the hospital management last Saturday. Based on our submissions, the hospital management accepted to meet the doctors’ demand,” Obiesie said.
He was, however, quick to say that the strike would continue on Monday if the hospital management reneged on its promises.
Obiesie said: “We demanded for the immediate reinstatement of 26 of our members who were unjustly terminated from their employment by the hospital management.”
