Lagos –  A 20-year-old Togolese, John Folly, was charged before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday for allegedly snatching a vehicle at gunpoint from one Izobo Agbebaku, a Federal Government official.

Folly is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Godwin Anyanwu, told the court that the accused, an indigene of Fulgan town in Togo, is a panel beater and is resident at No. 2, Military Zone, Idimu Rd., Ejigbo in Lagos.

He said that on March 16 at about 2 p.m., the accused, together with others who are currently at large, attacked the complainant, a driver of a Federal Government-owned Toyota Corolla, with Reg. No. FG-21 P47, at No. 5, Oba Ayoka St., Iba Town, Ojo.

He said that the accused, who were armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, snatched the vehicle at gunpoint from Agbebaku.

Anyanwu told the court that the accused immediately reported the robbery to the police, who took down his statement.

He said that the police, following their continuous search, apprehended the accused in the Egbeda area of Lagos, while attempting to sell the vehicle.

Anyanwu told the court that Folly’s accomplices were still at large, saying that all hands were on deck to apprehend them.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 6(b) and 1(2), (a) and (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions Act), 2004.

Following an application for remand made by the prosecutor, Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya ordered that the accused be remanded in custody, pending the advice of the state Director of Public Prosecutions.

The case was then adjourned till May 30. (NAN)
