CAN these rescuers be saved? I mean Edo Rescue 2012? It’s an emergency group suspected to be under the sponsorship and financial war chest of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for July 14, 2012 governorship elections, Gen. Charles Airhiavbere.

However, if the Rescuer’s identity is ever to be given up for something more authentic, it will be for this singular reason: The Rescuer comes to understand that he can’t really save anyone. All saving is self-saving. All help is self-help. All influence is self-influence and all control is self-control. Such is Airhiavbere’s political ghost-chasing.

This Rescue group who bought several newspaper pages to display their level of ignorance and illiteracy, however, claimed that it has a Central Working Committee, CWC, whose responsibility or assignment is to rake up sentiments against Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s numerous projects in the state.

They have forgotten that we don’t “get” people to do things; they do them not based on their own belief systems, rationales and the choices they make out of those belief systems and rationales. We may push and prod, we may nag and cajole, we may manipulate and attempt to control, but the bottom line is that people do what they think is going to work for them.

My worries, however, is that will this financial fiasco (advertorials and bullet proof cars for selected PDP leaders) work for Airhiavbere? His resort to abusive relationship will not do him any magic because what is working for them right now is a continuation of a Victim’s identity. The victim here is Airhiavbere; don’t ask me victim of what? Let’s all wait for the morning after the election.

Importantly though, I want to remind this Rescue group that those who hunt the forest (game) should know that the forest also contains something that hunts the hunter or, could it be that they don’t know that the watcher of the watched does not know that the being watched is watching?

They simply distress themselves to no end. Oshiomhole and members of his administration have been victims of vicious propaganda by these Chief Tony Anenih’s agents and Airhiavbere’s scavengers. But the print media should as a matter of responsibility decline frequent use of materials from these agents because relying on a medium of doubtful credibility does the press greater harm.

With Oshiomhole on the driver’s seat, I have great confidence about our future, notwithstanding the challenges. In the years to come, new leaders will emerge but not the likes that would run down a legitimate government and one that strives on a daily basis to discredit an Oshiomhole that is doing his best to better the lots of our people. I also have no doubt that our society will evolve in more dynamic ways and hopefully get better with Oshiomhole, irrespective of the antics and shenanigans of Airhiavbere.

On all the issues this Rescue group raised, my explanations in several outings, both on print and broadcast, did not quell the rumour they are spreading, more so that some of those things Oshiomhole is doing usually takes time.

It is a fact that project management has strict timeliness and the dependencies are outside one’s control and its impact on project delivery but these reprobates would not heed. For example, how many of them pray for the quick completion of the road projects in the state in the face of threatening dark clouds? If it rains for the whole months in a year as it is the case in Edo State, do we expect magic or miracle from Oshiomhole? However, Oshiomhole has delivered in the face of daunting challenges and uncertainties.

Faced with mounting pressure to deliver immediately, these rumour-mongers and hack writers take no account of some of the problematic but necessary steps that have to be taken before project initiation, execution and delivery. It’s a pity for this fake group.

Explanation after explanation yields no fruits, especially to these emerging groups. To worsen matter, you find a band of virulent critics bent on finding fault, doubting, questioning and disbelieving everything government does while building their reputation (if any) and influence on their ability to dredge up negative things, imagined rather than real.

I sincerely think that this group of rescuers need to rescue themselves from their need to rescue others or else their voyage would be termed an optimal illusion built on the path of sophisticated self-deception. Do they need to search for a mental health professional near them? Shouldn’t we rescue these rescuers?
