PDP talks with Ladoja collapse

By Ola Ajayi, Ibadan
THE much-talked about reconciliation talks between former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja and some Peoples Democratic Party leaders in the South West may have hit the rocks as the ex-governor has refused to take part in the state congress of the party slated for today.

Ladoja, who the South West leaders of the PDP have been trying to convince to come back to the PDP which he parted ways with some weeks to the 2011 governorship elections said with the look of things, it was evident that the PDP in the state would hold two parallel congresses which he would not want to be involved in.

When  Vanguard called him on phone, the Accord Party leader in the state explained that he would not want to be a part of the division in the party noting that if the national leaders of the party actually wanted him back into the party, they would call for him.

About three weeks ago, the National Vice Chairman of the party in the South West, Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo held a closed door meeting with Ladoja in his Bodija residence pleading with him to come back to the party.

He said, with the kind of influence that the ex-governor wielded in the state, it would be dangerous for the party not to welcome him to the party.

Earlier in his residence yesterday, hundreds of the loyalists of the Accord Party leader from the 33 local government areas of the state held an extra-ordinary congress with Ladoja in attendance pleading with him to abort any negotiation with the PDP because the party was not sincere in their talks.

Ladoja said, Accord Party in the state has been a progressive party with a bright future adding that the alleged insincerity of the leadership of PDP in Oyo state had brought about a natural abortion to the talks.

Leaders of Accord Party thanked Senator Ladoja for his leadership prowess and democratic disposition pledging their support for him and urged him to continue in his progressive attitude. Ladoja later told his party supporters to go out and inform the masses in the state that Accord Party remains an indivisible entity.
