Veteran actor, Justus Esiri is poised to be the next recipient of the prestigious O’jez Entertainment Award scheduled for Sunday, April 1, 2012.
The monthly awards series that was instituted over a decade ago is honouring Esiri for his over three decades invaluable contribution to the nation’s acting industry.
Chief Executive Officer of O’jez, Chief Joseph Odobeatu in a statement said Esiri deserves all the honours he can get “for being one of the pioneers of the nation’s film industry in Nigeria. His role as the Village Headmaster in the now rested TV serial “The Village Headmaster, would remain evergreen in the memories of Nigerians who stayed glued to their television sets to watch the programme back in the days.
I always say, O’jez Entertainment Award is for exceptional people in the Nigerian society that have distinguished themselves in their chosen careers.”
Esiri, father of Afro hip hop star, Dr. Syd, while accepting the awards said he was indeed glad that the honour was coming at this time of his career. “I have had many awards, in fact, so many I can’t remember all but I cherish the O’jez Entertainment Awards because this is one man’s own little way of recognizing and appreciating people and to think he has been consistent in doing this for over a decade now shows he has good intentions.’
