No fewer than 500 students were trained at the just-concluded 2012 Nigeria Fellowship of Evangelical students (NIFES) four-day Leadership Training Conference (LTC).

This leadership training conference which held at the Hope Waddel Training Institution, Calabar, had students from higher institutions in Akwa-Ibom and Cross-River states in attendance.

The students were trained on How to respond to adverse policies and Essentials of strategic leadership as exemplified by Jesus Christ.

Speaking on this year’s LTC theme: Leading in a Post-modern campus, NIFES National Director, Mr. Bala Usman noted that the level of moral decadence in our society, especially among the youths is a source of worry.

“NIFES in response to this organises the Leadership Training Conference annually to address the youths against social vices with a view to making them better future leaders.”

Speaking further, he maintained that homosexuality, examination malpractice, indecent dressing among others rearing their ugly heads now and then in our citadels of learning, if not tackled squarely will be a major setback to the nation’s leadership in the future.

Concluding, he said: “It’s imperative to redirect the minds of the youths to the leadership style of Jesus Christ, hence the Leadership Training Conference.”

On his part, Mr. Peter Adebayo, Secretary of LTC central planning committee and Training Secretary of NIFES operation in Calabar Zone (Akwa Ibom and Cross River states), maintained that youths are very pivotal in nation-building, hence the need to re-direct their minds towards the direction of seeking the right moral values which society holds in high esteem.
