Lagos –  Lagos State Government is constructing a road to link Esanfin and Ojota communities where 10 children drowned recently as they were being ferried to school.

Reports have it that both communities are in the Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of the state.

The children died when the ferry carrying them capsized during a rainstorm on Feb. 13.

The government had on Feb. 14 promised to construct the link road

Already,  workers of the state Ministry of Rural Development have begun cutting trees and evacuating other obstructions to pave way for the construction.

The road is to pass through Aba.

Some Ojota community members told newsmen on Monday that they were delighted at the development.

The community members, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed the hope that the road construction would be done urgently to save school children from further mishap on the water.

The state Commissioner for Rural Development, Mr Cornelius Ojelabi, had said during  a visit to the community that the road project would be completed within two weeks.

However, he later corrected that the construction might take longer than two weeks. (NAN).
