A Jos Chief Magistrate Court, on Thursday sentenced a 30-year-old man, Ibrahim Usman, to six months imprisonment for burglary.

The convict was jailed for forcefully breaking into a Nissan car with registration number AP 70 ABJ  and Peugeot saloon car registered AJ 920 JJN  along Fidelis Tapgun Road, Jos.

The police prosecutor, Mr Ado Ali told the court that Usman was arrested on February 18, at about 12 noon by a police patrol team led by one Inspector Yamusa Sale.

He said that the convict was arrested after using a master key to open the cars and was taken to “A” Divisional  Police Station, Jos for interrogation.

The prosecutor said that the convict was charged with burglary, which contravened Section 99 and 287 of the Penal Code.

He tendered as exhibit, the master key and two handsets the convict stole from the cars.

Usman, who pleaded guilty, begged the court for leniency, claiming that he needed money to feed himself as all his parents were killed during the Jos crisis.

He also told the court that he burgled the cars in search of handsets or money and had no intention of stealing the vehicles.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Talatu Gada, convicted Usman to six months imprisonment or pay a fine of N4, 000. (NAN)
