Ghana assistant coach Kwesi Appiah was disappointed with Tunisia’s aggressive behaviour as the Black Stars ran out 2-1 winners in extra time in their AFCON quarter-finals on Sunday.
Andre Ayew scored the winning goal to secure a last four clash with Zambia after a goalkeeping error from the Carthage Eagles goalkeeper Aymen Mathlouthi.
John Mensah had netted his side’s opener with Saber Khelifa equalising in a feisty affair in Franceville on Sunday.
The match turned nasty following Ayew’s goal with Aymen Abdennour shown a red card for an elbow on the Ghana play maker.
The referee took an age to produce the card, which sparked a mini melee with a number of players squaring up to each other.
Appiah said after the game: “This wasn’t the best for African football.
“Their tackles and behaviour need to be looked at very well by the authorities.”
Appiah admitted he wasn’t surprised by the nature of the game but was delighted to see his side progress to a semi-final with Zamibia.
He added: “We played a tactical game to ensure we held Tunisia and also launched counter attacks.
“We were not surprised that the game dragged into extra time because Tunisia have a very good team.
“However, the important thing is that we have qualified for the semi-finals.”
