Yenagoa—The leadership of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Bayelsa State has denied reports that 200 of its members decamped to the Change Advocacy Party, CAP.

Acting chairman of the party in the state, Chief Philip Iki, who disclosed this, weekend, in Yenagoa, said the support base of the ACN was still intact contrary to rumours that 200 members of ACN recently decamped to CAP.

He said ACN paraded the best candidates in Mr Kemela Okara and his running mate, Mr Chris Nalagou Alagoa, in the coming governorship election.

Iki said the party suspended the former state chairman and three other members of the state executive council due to their involvement in anti party activities.

He said: “We remain committed, focused and more positioned to brace up with the challenges ahead and even more optimistic of the peoples’ votes and assured victory of Kemela Okara and his running mate, Chris Nalagou Alagoa, come February 11, 2012.”

He explained that the party had to suspend the former state chairman, Mr. Theodore Disuoh and four others to serve as deterrent to erring members in the future, in accordance with the party’s constitution.

He said the disciplinary action taken against the erring party officials may have been misinterpreted as 200 supporters of ACN decamping to CAP in certain quarters.

Chief Iki, who led the  state executive council members, including all local government party chairmen and ward co-coordinators to pay a solidarity visit to the ACN flag bearer, Okara, assured him and his running mate of their total support
