There was palpable tension yesterday among personnel and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over last Friday’s judgment by an Abuja based Federal High Court which declared that the football body was illegal.
Members of the NFF Board who were scheduled to have an emergency meeting yesterday later postponed the meeting to today. It is believed that the meeting was summoned to specifically address the court judgment.
President of NFF Aminu Maigari refused to make any comments on the prevailing situation when approached by sports writers at the Glass House. Earlier on Musa Ahmadu, the Secretary General of the nation’s football body had maintained that NFF would not comment on the court judgement until it is properly served.
It would recalled that last Friday judgement was delivered in a case that was filed by Dr. Sam Jaja against the Nigeria Premier League and the Nigeria Football Federation. Dr. Jaja- a former Chairman of the Nigeria Referees Association had been disqualified from taking part into the Nigeria Premier League Board on May 8, 2010.
The court had also ruled that only the Nigeria Football Association (NFA)which was established through Decree 101 of 1991 was known to and recognized by Nigerian law.
