Unresolved murder cases

lBAGAUDA KALTO, of the News magazine, abducted from his room in Durbar Hotel and murdered during the Abacha dictatorship. Since then, there have been no clues as to who did it.

lOBI WALI, Rivers State born politician of progressive inclination, murdered in his Port Harcourt residence. The case has since been buried.

lALFRED REWANE, NADECO financier, murdered at his Ikeja, Lagos home in 1994. The case has been on since with the trial of suspects who pleaded not guilty to the heinous crime.

lKUDIRAT ABIOLA, wife of the late Chief MKO Abiola, felled by assassin’s bullets close to the Lagos-Ibadan Express toll gate in 1994. General Sani Abacha’s chief security officer, Major Hamzat Al-Mustapha, and others are still being tried for the politically motivated murder.

lSULIAT ADEDEJI, a prominent female politician in Oyo State, assassinated on November14, 1996.

lOGBONNA UGWU, brother to a member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, killed by unknown men who allegedly mistook him for his brother, in 2001.

lODUNAYO OLAGBAJU, killed on December 21, 2001. He represented Ile-Ife constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly.

lEYO EYO, killed in his house in Calabar, Cross River State in April 2002. Eyo Eyo was an information officer to the state commissioner for agriculture. The gunmen also shot and critically wounded his wife said to be nursing a four-month old baby.

lIGWE BARNABAS, the Onitsha branch chairman of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), killed alongside his wife, Mrs. Abigail Amaka Barnabas, on September 10, 2002 by suspected assassins.

lOGBONNAYA UCHE, ANPP senatorial candidate for Orlu Zone murdered on February 8, 2003, by unknown gunmen, at his Owerri, Imo State home. His killers are yet to be brought to book.

lMARSHAL HARRY, All Nigeria Peoples Party chieftain, killed on March 5, 2003, in his home. Nobody is serving jail term for the crime.

lAMINASOARI KALA DIKIBO, chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, South South Zone, killed on 6 February, 2004, under circumstances termed to be inexplicable.

lANDREW AGOM, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and former boss of Nigeria Airways, killed on March 4, 2004. Agom was on the entourage of the former Benue State governor, Senator George Akume, when the incident happened. The armed men opened fire on the governor’s car. Akume is lucky to be alive.

lPETER EBOIGBE, a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain, killed in Benin-City on August 11, 2005 by suspected assassins. Eboigbe had shortly before then declared his intention to run for the position of chairman of Oredo Local Government in Edo State.

lAYO DARAMOLA, a former World Bank consultant and PDP governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, murdered in 2006. The police are still on the case.

lFUNSHO WILLIAMS, Lagos PDP governorship aspirant, killed at his Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos home, on July 2006. The police are yet to identify his killers.

CHARLES NSIEGBE, a political associate of Rivers State governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, murdered in Port Harcourt, on November 21, 2009.

lDIPO DINA, the AC governorship candidate, popularly called DD-Direct, shot and killed on January 25, 2010, by suspected assassins.

lTHEODORE AGWATU, principal secretary to Imo State governor, shot and killed in his home on February 22, 2011. The motive for the killings has not been confirmed..

lFOJI BIU, murdered in cold blood just before the April 2011 elections. He was the All Nigeria Peoples’ Party, ANPP, governorship candidate in Borno State
