As Nigerians lament the non qualification of the national teams in all major international competitions next year, the cry for the removal of the Aminu Maigari led NFF board has been growing by the day.

Speaking to a cross section of football stakeholders who expressed different views on the issues, they all said that Maigari and the system which brought him should be changed as he is part of the problem.

Isong Isang, Chairman of Akwa United Football Club said policies should be put in place which will allow for credible persons in the NFF because all those their now are products of the system.

“I don’t see football the way most Nigerians do. I see it from the stand point of professionalism which we as a country have not seen, that is why we still surfer from ill-growth.

“I know that there are problems in Nigerian football but we can’t win all the time. The problem with Nigerians is that we always like blaming persons for our failure instead of formulating policies that will enable for the smooth running of the game. The issue is not Maigari or his board but the policy within the structure,” Chief Isang said.

On his part, former media officer of the NFA, Austin Mgbolu said, “There is no way you can divorce the present state of our football from those running it. Yes, there are issues and problems, but we can’t use only one yardstick to measure the failures we have experienced of late.

“The truth is that, there has never been a time where there was no problem in our football but not to the extent of this catastrophic fall of not qualifying for the Nations Cup, Olympic football (Male and Female). The decay didn’t start today but long ago,” Mgbolu said.

Reacting to the issue, former Super Eagles winger, Edema Fuludu opined that, “Maigari is not the issue but the system. Until we change the system, we will never get it right. We will only go round and round.

“It has always been the same thing over and over again. Whether it is Galadima or Maigari board, it is same of same. Insanity is when you do the same thing over again and expect a different result. Galadima didn’t qualify us for the World Cup we all called for his head. Now it is Maigari’s turn and the question is what has he done for our football since inception? This is the crux of the matter,” Fuludu lamented.
