Robbers raid Ekiti bank

ADO-EKITI—THE circus of robbery that has engulfed the South-West again moved to Ekiti State yesterday as robbers struck at Ikole Ekiti, in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State  carting  away  millions of naira from one of the first generation banks in the town.

During the incident, two policemen were shot by the robbers and are now receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the town.

According to an eye witness, the robbers, numbering 11  were said to have arrived  the town  about 10.15 a.m via Itapaji Ekiti  in the northern part of the state.

The hoodlums were said to have engaged policemen  at a checkpoint between Itapaji/Ikole road in  a gun battle. They were said to have overpowered the security operatives.

Two of the policemen were however hit by the robbers, while the others were said to have fled into the bush

It will be recalled that a gang of robbers had in May 30, this year stormed the Ado-Ekiti branch of the same bank where with the  use of dynamite gained access into the banking hall where no fewer than five people  were killed

Meantime, Governor, Kayode Fayemi will today present the 2012 budget to the  State House of Assembly .

Fayemi  is also  expected to  commission the ultra-modern House of Assembly Complex  that would accommodate the 26 members of the House and their workers.
